Introducing Rainwater Partnership

Achieving full potential of rainwater harvesting in contributing to achieving the MDGs, particularly in countries not on track to halve the proportion of people without access to safe water by 2015.

To provide access to water for household (drinking, washing, cooking, cleaning, sanitation) and small-scale irrigation purposes to rural and peri-urban communities world-wide through the implementation of water policies and plans that encourage and support the construction of rainwater harvesting structures.

The activities of the Rainwater Partnership will focus particularly on the countries that are not on track to meet the MDG target of halving the proportion of people without access to safe water by 2015. Most of these countries are located in sub-Saharan Africa. If concrete opportunities based on needs and demands arise in other countries, the Rainwater Partnership will consider to expand its focus.
